The Repair Shop is one of our favourite craft shows on TV – and now presenter Jay Blades is back in a new show with national treasure Sir David Jason.

Jay and David have teamed up to bring us David and Jay's Touring Toolshed, in which they travel the country helping members of the public and experts with their craft makes and fixes.

In each episode, the duo will park up their toolshed at a craft or engineering fair, to help enthusiasts and tinkerers, and call in some expert help with their tricky projects.

On their travels across the country, they'll also meet talented people whose crafting hobbies have taken over their lives.

Jay shared the heartwarming moment that he and Sir David first met, and how much Jay wanted to work together.

In a video clip shared on his Instagram, Jay said: "How the partnership came, I invited him and his wife down to the Repair Shop. As he steps out the car, there's a bit of rubbish on the floor. The first thing he said to me is: 'What kind of establishment are you running here?'"

In the clip, Sir David laughs and replies: "The quality of your character or the way that you are was so nice and relaxed and easy."

The series began on Monday 22 January on BBC Two at 6.30pm. In this episode, the pair headed to the Midlands Air Festival, including helping a budding maker improve her mechanical sculptures, and admiring art made from old plane parts.

The Repair Shop star Jay took to Instagram over the summer to share the exciting news about the new show. He said: "The cat is out of the bag. I am working with Sir David Jason filming a Great New Show called, David & Jay’s Traveling Tool Shed.

"We both can’t wait for you to see it, in 2024."

Star of Only Fools and Horses David Jason is a life-long lover of creating and fixing things. He said: “It’s great to be back on the nation’s TV screens doing something totally different.

"I’ve played a lot of roles in my time but, to be myself, show off my creative passion and help the wonderful people we meet along the way resolve their mechanical masterpiece issues is very rewarding.

"I’ve really enjoyed being on the road with Jay where we have built up a great friendship and had a lot of fun which I hope the viewers will enjoy watching when it airs.”

Jay was just as delighted as David to be hitting the road as a pair. He said: “Working with Sir David Jason, a fellow craft enthusiast is a dream come true. Filming is underway and it has been great to start helping the nations’ makers fix their passion projects."

David and Jay's Touring Toolshed is on Mondays at 6.30pm on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer .
