Report: Jaguars QB Gardner Minshew has multiple fractures, strained ligament in thumb
The Jacksonville Jaguars are on bye in Week 8, but they may not have their starting quarterback when they return in Week 9.
Gardner Minshew has multiple fractures and a strained ligament in the thumb of his throwing hand, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
X-rays during this week revealed that Jaguars’ QB Gardner Minshew II has multiple fractures and a strained ligament in his right thumb, sources told ESPN.
Minshew has had discomfort in his thumb since Oct. 11 at Houston. Jaguars didn’t know about Minshew’s injury until this week— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) October 29, 2020
Schefter reported that the team didn’t know about the injuries until this week. Minshew has been feeling discomfort in his thumb since the Jags’ Week 5 game against the Houston Texans. He had an X-ray following their Week 7 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers, which reportedly revealed the injury.
Knowing that Minshew has an injured thumb gives some context to his recent poor play. Those struggles led head coach Doug Marrone to threaten to bench Minshew if he wasn’t cutting it.
If Minshew’s thumb sidelines him in Week 9, backup Mike Glennon would likely start in his place. With Marrone recently threatening to sit Minshew in favor of Glennon, we know that he’s at least considered what his offense would look like with Glennon throwing the passes.
