Carmelo Anthony’s NBA comeback might get even better next season. With Leon Rose taking over as New York Knicks president, it’s believed the team will look into a reunion with Anthony in the offseason, according to the New York Post.

It’s pretty easy to connect those dots. Rose is Anthony’s current agent. The two have been working together since 2009.

While Rose will have to give up all his clients once he takes the Knicks job, his familiarity with Anthony should help in the recruitment process. Anthony admitted the two talk multiple times per week, and also mentioned that those conversations will have to change, as he doesn’t want to be accused of tampering once Rose takes over. The Knicks have not announced Rose’s hiring yet, but are expected to hold a press conference soon.

After playing just 10 games last season, the 35-year-old Anthony went unsigned in the offseason. He joined the Portland Trail Blazers in November, and has proved he still has something left in the tank. Anthony is averaging 15.5 points and 6.4 rebounds per game.

Reuniting with the Knicks would be a good way for Anthony’s career to come full circle. While Anthony was drafted by the Denver Nuggets, he spent nearly as many years in New York. Though Anthony made the All-Star team every season with the team, he was scrutinized for not leading the Knicks to a championship.

Though the Knicks aren’t expected to be a contender next season, Anthony would give fans a feel-good reason to be invested in the team. And if the Knicks perform better than expected, maybe Anthony can finally follow through on helping the team secure a championship.

That seems unlikely, but Anthony’s career has been anything but predictable lately.
