Yahoo Finance Body found in search for missing Irish runner
A body has been found by Irish rescue teams searching for a female Irish runner who disappeared on Sunday.
The woman was last seen at around 12.45pm on Sunday, wearing a grey and pink hoody, black trousers and a bobble hat. Her husband contacted emergency services later that day after she failed to return from a run along the Coumshingaun Lough Loop, County Waterford.
After a long search, a body was sadly discovered at around 6.30pm yesterday evening, close to where the woman was last seen.
Rescue services involved in the search include the South Eastern Mountain Rescue Association (SEMRA), Search and Rescue Dog Association Ireland, the Coast Guard and gardaí, the Irish police force. Gardaí reportedly believe the woman's death was a tragic accident.
Liz Browne, a spokesperson for SEMRA, said: ‘About half a dozen search parties continued their trawl of gullies along parts of the Comeraghs close to lake Coumshingaun throughout the day.
'I can confirm that the body of a woman has been found on the Comeragh mountains and the search has stopped.'
A searcher said: 'This is not the outcome we wanted for the woman's family. It is very rare that such an awful event like this happens. Our thoughts are with the woman's husband and family.'
