The Resident star confirms character's fate after latest episode

The Resident season 4 episode 10 'Into the Unknown' spoilers follow.

The Resident season 4's latest episode featured a goodbye from Shaunette Renée Wilson's Dr Mina Okafor.

As fans of the medical drama will recall, Dr Cain has been conspiring to get Mina deported after realising that she's willing to testify against his malpractice, but his plan now lies in tatters.

Ultimately it was Mina herself who chose to return to Nigeria, and actress Wilson has officially confirmed her exit in a statement on social media.

"After deeply thoughtful reflection, I approached the producers some time ago asking to leave the show and they agreed – and gave my character a wonderful send-off," she explained.

"I am appreciative of them for allowing me to embody as beautiful of a soul as Dr Mina Okafor. I would also like to thank the studio, network, cast, crew and, most of all, the wonderfully dedicated fans of The Resident for their support over the last four seasons."

Meanwhile, The Resident's executive producers went on to say (via TV Line): "Losing the extraordinary Shaunette is heartbreaking for us, but we are honouring her request to leave with gratitude and respect for her contribution to the show.

"We want the fans to know that we have lots in store for AJ as he reels from this loss, and we want Shaunette to know the door is always open."

The Resident airs on Fox in the US, and on Sky Witness in the UK.
