Richard E. Grant has paid tribute to “the power of Twitter” after being reunited with his Landrover Discovery that was stolen overnight.

The actor asked fans to look out for his car after he woke up to discover it had gone missing from outside his house.

Sharing an update on Twitter, Grant said the car had been found in Sutton after he had a tracking device reactivated remotely upon advice of a representative of Vodafone Automotive.

The Withnail and I star - who lives in Richmond in London - revealed his £50,000 Land Rover Discovery had been taken from outside his home.

Grant, 62, shared a now deleted tweet this morning saying: “My car has been stolen from outside my house. It’s a dark green Landrover Discovery.

"If by any chance you see the number plate L*** ***, please let me know."

Fans shared their sympathies with the actor, replying "Hope it is found and returned quickly. So sorry this happened."

Another added: "Oh my, not the start you want today or any day. Hope it's found soon and returned in good condition."

But others warned Grant of the dangers of sharing his licence plate online, discussing the dangers of car cloning.

The post has now been taken down.

It comes within weeks of Strictly Come Dancing’s Saffron Barker revealing her family home had been robbed while they slept.

The 19-year-old YouTube star shared a Vlog with her 1.03 million followers revealing they had woken up to find all the cars stolen, along with handbags and shoes from inside their home.

In a tearful video she admitted: “It’s scary because if someone had came into my room I would be absolutely terrified and just the thought of knowing somebody has been in your room is really, really scary.”

Barker also deleted her original post about the robbery due to the online police investigation.

Earlier this year Jonathan Ross sought help on Twitter when his dog escaped from his garden. He later used social media to thank the person who had found his pet pug and helped return him home.
