RIYADH, SAUDI ARABIA--(Marketwired - May 1, 2014) - Greece may have been the birthplace of philosophy, drama and folklore, but its cuisine is arguably its most beloved legacy. From savory souvlaki, to sun-ripened olives and soft cheeses, to desserts delicately spiced with honey and almonds, there's nothing not to love. With that in mind, the Riyadh Marriott Hotel recently featured a week-long celebration of Greece's best-loved dishes at its Mosaic Mediterranean Restaurant, and everyone from the Ambassador of Greece to international travelers arrived at this hotel near the RUH Airport to get a taste.

As one of the finest Mediterranean restaurants in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Mosaic was a natural venue for the "Food of the Sun" Greek festival between April 22 and 30, 2014. The restaurant specializes in creating beautiful buffets that routinely feature the region's most delectable dishes, along with seafood and international fare during dinner service.

Equally at home with Greek cuisine was His Excellency, Ioannis Christofilis, Ambassador of Greece to Saudi Arabia, who co-hosted a VIP reception and dinner to kick off the festival. He and his co-host, hotel General Manager Muin Serhan, welcomed the crème de la crème of Riyadh society to the event, including Ambassadors of France, Russia, Lebanon, Canada, Cuba, Argentina, Thailand and South Africa.

For those who missed the gala, this Al Faisaliah hotel in Riyadh made sure there was ample opportunity to recreate the meal. Every day during the festival, Mosaic channeled its inner Greek with traditional staples like beef, lamb and chicken souvlaki; moussaka; spanakopita; and a liberal sprinkling of feta cheese in a variety of dishes. But guests could also look forward to some less well-known, authentic options like octopus salad, pasticcio and fasolatha. And with a shifting, abundant selection of buffet items each day, diners could easily try something new every day of the festival.

Of course, considering the caliber of this Riyadh Olaya hotel, Mosaic's enthusiastic approach to the festival should come as no surprise. This is a property, after all, where the fitness center is the largest hotel gym in the city; where tennis gets played on the rooftop court; and where 418 remodeled guest rooms and suites marry modern conveniences (jack packs and smart lighting) with timeless luxury (sumptuous bedding and spaciousness). But like Greece, the hotel may discover that, despite its many advantages, people still remember the food first.

About the Riyadh Marriott Hotel

Extending a sumptuous travel experience to its guests, the recently renovated Riyadh Marriott Hotel has become an iconic destination within the city. Its reputation is well-earned considering its many upgraded amenities. Three restaurants serve a tempting array of cuisines, from light snacks in the Atrium Cafe, to Mediterranean fare at Mosaic, to the one-of-a-kind Terrace Grill steakhouse, which is already garnering awards for being the only Riyadh restaurant to specialize in Angus beef. Remodeled guest rooms, meanwhile, wear modern palettes of soothing neutral hues as they welcome visitors with down comforters, designer duvets and high-speed Internet access.
