Steve Irwin’s son Robert has revealed he is learning to drive his late father’s old car.

The 16-year-old star of Crikey! It's the Irwins and son of the late Crocodile Hunter proudly showed off his L-Plates on the utility vehicle formerly driven by his dad.

Robert said: “Here we go! I’m so excited to finally start driving... and happy to be learning in the best car - Dad’s old Ute!!”

TV star and wildlife expert Steve Irwin died aged 44 in 2006 after his heart was pierced by a stingray’s barb while snorkeling in shallow waters in Queensland, Australia. He was known worldwide from his television series The Crocodile Hunter which ran from 1996 to 2007.

His children Robert and Bindi, 21, and widow Terri now star in their own series Crikey! It's the Irwins and continue to work at Australia Zoo.

Robert performs with the animals for visitors to the zoo, just like his father used to do.

Last year he recreated a photograph of his father feeding a crocodile.

His sister Bindi recently paid tribute to her dad on what would have been his 58th birthday.

She wrote: “Dad, Today is your birthday. I had an extra strong cup of tea just how you liked it. I hugged Mum for you and told her how much we love her. Robert and I went on a hike through the mountains you cherished. I watched one of your documentaries with Chandler and shared stories about you. I walked through your office in the zoo and smiled at our old family photographs. Today and every day I miss you and love you beyond description. You’re always with me.”

Bindi is set to marry her fiance Chandler Powell, at Australia Zoo later this year.

American wakeboarding champion Powell, 22, met Bindi in 2013 when he visited Australia Zoo while on vacation with his family. They officially began dating in July 2015, after Powell contacted Terri Irwin and asked if he could take out her daughter. Last year he moved to Australia, where he works at the zoo and features in the Irwins’ reality show.
