Roy Hodgson unhappy with Crystal Palace’s rescheduled Manchester United fixture

Roy Hodgson is furious Crystal Palace’s match against Manchester United has been rescheduled to this Wednesday - as it will stop Wilfried Zaha playing against his former club.

Palace had originally been scheduled to play United at Selhurst Park on Saturday, March 20 but the fixture has been moved because Gunnar Solksjaer's team are through to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.

Zaha is unlikely to have recovered from his hamstring injury in time for the game and Hodgson, whose side have scored just two goals in four games without their talisman and failed to register a shot on target in Sunday’s 0-0 draw with Fulham, is unhappy.

"The Man United game that has been thrust upon us, we're pretty unhappy about," said Hodgson.

“It is pretty tough to play Man United now and then get three weeks off when we don't need three weeks off.

"It is part and parcel of being in the Premier League, the powers that be feel the need to move games.

“I would prefer a week to prepare our players to give our players a chance to recover from two unbelievably difficult games."

Hodgson defended criticisms of a perceived lack of ambition from Palace following their goalless draw with Fulham.

After winning at Brighton on Monday with 25 per cent of the ball and just two touches in the opposition box, Palace failed to muster a shot on target at Selhurst Park.

"I think our ambition was to attack and create lots of chances, but there are two teams on the field," said Hodgson.

"Fulham were good at restricting space and attacking options, and you have to play the game that's out there. We didn't set out to involve ourselves in a game with the amount of possession and chances they had.

"Our major weapon today was the defensive shape and organisation to make sure we didn't lose it."
