The Royal Family’s official Instagram account has shared a black and white photograph of the Queen and Prince Philip along with a collection of images of highlighting his commitment to the Commonwealth.
The first photograph of the royal couple shows the pair smiling happily on an official visit, before more images reveal Prince Philip throughout the decades speaking to cadets, greeting crowds and accepting a flag from children in New Zealand.
The post explains that, “The Duke of Edinburgh was committed to the Commonwealth, meeting and connecting with people from every walk of life.”
It goes on to detail how Prince Philip visited 50 Commonwealth countries throughout his life, including 229 solo visits, and had Commonwealth and Patronage appointments in a broad range of nations since 1949.
Prince Philip’s work with a range of organisations such as the WWF and his Duke of Edinburgh Award and International Award Scheme have been honoured in other posts on the Royal Family account.
Touching personal tributes from family members including Prince William have also been released over the days since Prince Philip's passing.
Prince Charles shared an emotional slideshow of images documenting his life with his father, including images of the family from his childhood and snippets of the Queen and Prince Philip laughing together over the years.
In the post Prince Charles honoured his “papa” for his support and commitment to his family, as well as to his official duties over more than 70 decades.
World leaders have also been honouring the Duke and sharing memories of their time with him, including former US President Barack Obama and New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern.
