The royal family have taken to social media to wish Meghan Markle a happy 40th birthday today.

Despite Prince Harry and Meghan leaving their lives as senior working royals behind them and moving to the other side of the Atlantic, they're all still family at the end of the day, and family celebrate with each other on big birthdays.

Although there's been no sign yet of the duke and duchess of Cambridge posting a message on their official Instagram account, the family have shared a series of photos of Meghan and Harry on Twitter, including one of the Queen smiling alongside Meghan, with whom she's said to enjoy a special relationship.

The captions reads: 'Wishing the Duchess of Sussex a very happy birthday today!'

Meghan is expected to be celebrating at home in California with Prince Harry and their two children, Archie, 2, and baby Lilibet 'Lili,' who was born in June. The couple are currently on parental leave, enjoying the newest addition to their family, as specified in a statement on their Archewell website following Lili's birth announcement:

'While the duke and duchess are on parental leave, Archewell will continue to do important work and publish stories on the site. We look forward to seeing you!'
