Hosts France will open the 2023 Rugby World Cup against the All Blacks in Paris, World Rugby has announced.

The 10th edition of the tournament opens on Friday, September 8 with a mouth-watering clash with resurgent France, likely to be a major force, battling New Zealand. The final is also at the Stade de France, on October 28.

England begin their tournament on a “Super Saturday”, September 9, that sees four matches.

England face Argentina in Marseille (Eddie Jones’ preferred venue), then Japan in Nice and two qualifiers in Lille. The shortest turnaround they have in the tournament is six days.

World Rugby chairman Bill Beaumont said the schedule had been “developed with teams and fans at heart” and said the governing body were “confident it will provide the best possible platform for a thrilling, historic and very special Rugby World Cup in the sport’s 200th year”.
