Said Benrahma ’doing well’ at West Ham despite criticism and lack of goals, says David Moyes

David Moyes believes Said Benrahma has made a good start to life in the Premier League despite having yet to score for West Ham.

The Algerian, on loan from Brentford ahead of a £30million move at the end of the season, was eased into the side by Moyes following his arrival but has now started the last five games in all competitions - all victories for West Ham.

Benrahma is yet to score and has been accused of working too hard to address that while Moyes has also been critical of his decision-making and ball retention.

Despite that criticism, the Hammers boss insists the 25-year-old is making a positive start after stepping up from the Championship and says greater expectations from media and supporters make it all the more difficult for new arrivals.

"I think the biggest thing we are getting him to work on is getting used to the Premier League," Moyes said when asked how Benrahma is working to address his lack of goals. "I don't think we need to work on anything more specific.

"You bring people in and you're always expecting so much so quick and quite often the boys I have brought from the Championship I have never started them quickly, I have always taken my time and tried to bring them on at the right speed. But because of the media and the supporters, everybody wants things done much much quickly nowadays.

"I think Said is doing well, I think he has come on but there are lots of parts of his game I want him to improve on. It is a big jump from the Championship to the Premier League and it doesn't always happen overnight for everybody."
