Samantha Morton has said she is “on the mend” after being admitted to hospital on Monday night.

The 43-year-old star of The Walking Dead and Harlots did not reveal why she required medical treatment amid the coronavirus pandemic, but urged fans to “wear a mask”.

Morton tweeted a picture of herself in the Conquest Hospital in Hastings wearing a face mask and shield.

She wrote: “Thankyou to all the A and E staff at the Conquest who helped me tonight. I’m so grateful for our NHS,to see the red zone first hand and the nurses and doctors being so kind and wonderful to us all was humbling. I’m ok tonight because of them. #SaveOurNHS #WearAMask #COVID19”

The actor added: “I’m on the mend. I’ll get there and thank you so much for the well wishes.”

Morton has underlying health conditions after suffering a stroke in 2006 following a severe head injury.

She was in hospital for three weeks after being struck on the head by a piece of falling masonry and had to relearn to walk.
