SAN DIEGO, CA--(Marketwired - May 16, 2014) - The Board of Directors of the San Diego Ad Club announced a name change today at their 10th annual Interactive Day San Diego, the West coast's premier digital marketing conference.

The name change to SDX reflects the evolution of the advertising, marketing, and communications industries that the organization has grown to represent. According to Tonya Mantooth, president, "In our world of building brands and engaging customers there have been seismic changes in the past 10 years. Technology has redefined our business and will continue to do so."

"SDX is the intersection of media, marketing, technology, and innovation. Most importantly SDX is an invitation to explore, create, and imagine what's next in the world of marketing," added Mantooth.

As the business of marketing communications has evolved, the issue of a possible name change has been a topic of discussion by the Board of Directors for several years. A strategic planning process that started nearly two years ago focused on how this organization could best serve its increasingly diverse membership base, now and into the future.

At 103 years old, SDX is one of San Diego's oldest business associations. The original name was the San Diego Advertising and Sales Club and was founded in 1911 to help promote the upcoming California Panama Exposition in 1915. The organization was also responsible for starting the Better Business Bureau chapter in San Diego in the early '20s and has a strong legacy of community involvement.

As San Diego's most progressive business marketing resource today, SDX provides industry-leading advocacy, best-in-class education, and unparalleled networking opportunities. SDX delivers access to San Diego's integrated media, marketing, and tech organizations, serving the region's top companies, people, and leaders.

"With our membership at an all-time high with nearly 300 companies and close to 700 individual members represented, the timing was right to make the name change and bridge the gap between perception and reality. SDX membership is not comprised of just advertising. Our umbrella includes all creative communications and technology endeavors. We firmly believe that by providing a platform for sharing ideas, our San Diego region can take its place as a leader in digital marketing," said Mantooth.

SDX will continue to host the popular Brand Diego Awards, which celebrates the best and brightest of San Diego's homegrown brands and those that tend to them. It will also continue the popular tradition of the American Advertising Awards, a national competition that recognizes significant achievement in the creative arts and campaign development.

The roll-out of the new name is expected to take approximately 90-120 days. For more information, go to SanDiegoX.org.
