Saturn's Rings Are Totally Wild Up Close

If you've ever wondered what Saturn's mysterious rings look like up close, wonder no more. In newly released images from NASA taken with the Cassini spacecraft in its "Ring-Grazing" orbits phase, Saturn's rings are visible "in unprecedented detail."

The Cassini team has studied Saturn's rings from orbit for almost 13 years, but these images are more revealing than ever, said Matthew Tiscareno, a Cassini scientist who studies Saturn's rings at the SETI Institute, in NASA's statement:

"These close views represent the opening of an entirely new window onto Saturn's rings, and over the next few months we look forward to even more exciting data as we train our cameras on other parts of the rings closer to the planet."
