Selling Sunset's Jason addresses Mary favouritism claims

Thanks to the fact Selling Sunset's full of more drama than cheese in a stuffed-crust, it's easy to forget the fact it's actually their real lives. Chrishell Stause's divorce was real. Christine Quinn's wedding was real. And the rest of the estate agents questioning whether owner Jason Oppenheim favours colleague Mary Fitzgerald over the rest of them is also real.

From earlier seasons, we already know that Jason and Mary have history, after living together as a couple for six months and knowing each other for over a decade. But things come to a head in season three, when Maya Vander and the other realtors are upset at The Oppenheim Group's owner giving Mary listings.

But Jason insists he doesn't give anyone preferential treatment, telling Good Housekeeping all of his decisions are with the business in mind. "I don’t give her special treatment," he said. "When it comes to business ... it’s strictly a response to their production, the amount of money that they bring into the brokerage, their level of experience and expertise, and my level of trust in them."

Speaking about why the other agents might have been upset, he continued, "I understand that there can be frustrations from other agents because they see that Mary is being involved in and brought on to many of my listings.

"While I don’t share the financials with everyone because that’s confidential, I think that everyone would admit based on just the obvious work that she’s done, that she’s bringing more money into this brokerage and selling more properties than anyone else."

Jason noted that Mary managed to sell her wedding venue house "in a matter of weeks", and the billionaire client was so impressed that "he gave her another property at $8 million", which she sold too.

Keeping safe at the office.

Fair enough. Sounds like good work is being rewarded - something which Chrishell told Cosmopolitan UK she totally understands.

"Mary is working her arse off," Chrishell explained, reasoning as to why Jason might give her a listing occasionally. "She works harder than any agent in that office. She has multiple deals going on every single day. If Jason were to pass something of, it's because he knows she can handle it. And some of the [real estate agents] are not to be seen. Brokers don't give out listings - if they do, you're super lucky. It shouldn't be expected."
