There are many things we loved about Sex and the City, but one thing we most certainly did not was the idea that Carrie could afford endless bags of designer clothes and a central Manhattan apartment on one column a week. It was the farce that kept on giving. Each season involved more and more inconceivably expensive purchases; season 6 saw Carrie lose a pair of $485 heels at a baby shower but somehow it was a moral issue not a financial one. The mind boggles.
But fret no more, Fintech company ThinkMoney has stepped in to run some numbers, officially declaring that Carrie Bradshaw wouldn't actually have been able to afford her lifestyle. Plus, they've worked out exactly what Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte would have earned IRL.
ThinkMoney has estimated Carrie's annual columnist salary as £58,137 per year, which sounds good but let's not forget that for Carrie a typical outfit consists of a £1,200 Dior newspaper dress and her signature pair of £840 Monolo Blahniks.
According to ThinkMoney the highest earner of the group would Miranda, earning an annual salary of £96,678 as a lawyer. PR Executive Samantha comes in second with IRL earnings of £61,042 per year, while Charlotte's salary is estimated at £43,109 annually.
Recently Sarah Jessica Parker confirmed on Instagram that Sex and the City is getting a TV revival, with Carrie, Charlotte and Miranda returning for a limited series on HBO Max. Original stars Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis, and Cynthia Nixon will all star, but Kim Cattrall won't be back after the actor made it clear she had moved on from the series, which originally ran from 1998–2004.
