Taison, the Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder who kicked the ball at supporters who were abusing him during a game, has been given a one-match ban.

The Brazilian received a red card in the 1-0 win over Dynamo Kyiv after reacting to the abuse. The game’s referee took the players off the pitch after the incident occurred.

When both teams returned to the pitch, the 31-year-old was given his marching orders.

The Ukrainian Association of Football has ordered Dynamo Kiev to play one game behind closed doors and pay a fine of £16,000.

After the game, Taison’s teammate and compatriot, Marcos Antonio, said: "It's terrible when such things happen in football. The game needs real fans instead of the people who come to the stadium and behave like that, not respecting the athletes.

"We need to work on this because such episodes upset us all."

Another Shakhtar player, goalkeeper Andriy Pyatov also spoke after the match. He said: "Everyone is somewhat shocked by what has happened in the stands today. I've seen that for the first time ever. I've never thought that people can behave like that. It doesn't flatter anyone.
