Shell hopes to ship LNG for sale in Indonesia -Energy Ministry official

JAKARTA, July 17 (Reuters) -

* Oil major Shell (LSE: RDSB.L - news) and its partner are seeking to import liquefied natural gas (LNG) into Indonesia, an energy ministry official said on Tuesday.

* "Shell has proposed to the government to import LNG," Oil and Gas Director General Djoko Siswanto told reporters, adding that the request had not yet been approved and Shell had been asked to present its plans to the government.

* Shell and its partner had already found a buyer for the fuel and would build an LNG receiving terminal, Siswanto said without naming the partner or providing further detail on the proposal.

* Siswanto also cautioned that any imports by Shell must not prevent domestic LNG producers from finding buyers. (Reporting by Wilda Asmarini Writing by Fergus Jensen Editing by David Goodman)
