Shell Norco refinery completes reformer restart -sources
(Adds details on refinery operations, company unavailable)
HOUSTON, March 15 (Reuters) - Royal Dutch Shell Plc (LSE: 0LN9.L - news) completed the restart of the catalytic reformer at its 225,800-barrel-per-day (bpd) Norco, Louisiana, refinery on Thursday, sources familiar with plant operations said.
A company spokesman was not available for comment.
The 40,000-bpd reformer was shut in early February as part of a planned multi-unit overhaul, the sources said.
Also on Thursday, Shell (LSE: RDSB.L - news) was boosting production on the 40,000-bpd hydrocracker, which restarted on Tuesday.
The hydrocracker uses hydrogen and a catalyst under high heat and pressure to convert gas oil to motor fuels, especially diesel.
The reformer converts refining by-products into octane-boosting components that are blended into gasoline. (Reporting by Erwin Seba; Editing by Cynthia Osterman and Peter Cooney)
