Shell reports planned maintenance at Deer Park plant -community line

April 24 (Reuters) - Shell Oil Co reported planned maintenance was under way at its plant in Deer Park, Texas, according to a message posted on a community information line on Thursday.

The maintenance activity might cause flaring, the information line said.

The company had earlier said it identified a crack in process piping at the plant's refinery on Thursday.

The facility houses a 327,000 barrel-per-day (bpd) refinery and a chemical plant.

It was not immediately clear whether the maintenance was under way at the chemical plant or the refinery.

The Deer Park refinery is a 50-50 joint venture of Shell (LSE: RDSB.L - news) and Mexico's national oil company, Pemex. (For refinery outages in the Reuters Oil FundamentalsDatabase see http://bond.views.session.rservices.com/CE/ or go to OFD/INFO) (Reporting by Anupam Chatterjee in Bangalore)
