Caterham shooting: Police make arrest after man is shot in the head

Police say a man is in hospital with head and neck injuries after a shooting in Caterham, Surrey.

Surrey Police say an armed response unit was sent follow reports of a shooting on Coldstream Road at around 10pm on Thursday evening.

A 40-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life and is in custody.

The victim was rushed to hospital with head and neck injuries that are not thought to be life-threatening.

The force has confirmed they are now investigating the incident - which they believe is isolated - as attempted murder.

Borough Inspector Jon Vale said: “We are treating this case as attempted murder and strongly believe this to be an isolated incident.”

“We would like to reassure the public, who may have noticed a heightened police presence in the area that we are doing everything possible in this investigation.”
