Shop Sign Falls 20 Feet Onto Child's Pram

A 10-month-old toddler had an "incredibly lucky" escape when a shop sign fell 20 feet onto his pram.

The West Midlands Ambulance Service says the pram appears to have taken the bulk of the impact, leaving the child with just minor injuries.

“Thankfully, the little boy escaped serious injury," an ambulance spokesman said.

"He had minor injuries to his head and lower leg.

"After assessment by the ambulance crew and the doctor, he was taken to Princess Royal Hospital in Telford.

"His mother was understandably very distressed by what had happened but was also, fortunately, unhurt.

"When you consider what might have happened, they are both very lucky."

Callers to 999 described how the sign fell from the shop in Newport, Shropshire, on Tuesday afternoon.

An ambulance and an air ambulance were dispatched to the scene.
