Yahoo Finance Sky One to be replaced by two new channels in September
Sky has announced plans to replace Sky One, one of its most popular channels, with two new ones.
As part of a series of changes, Sky One's 106 slot - which has been around for the last 40 years – will be filled with Sky Showcase from Wednesday, September 1, a terrestrial channel that'll "curate a selection of the best TV shows from across Sky's portfolio of entertainment brands".

At the same time, Sky will also launch Sky Max, which will act as both a channel and on-demand service – becoming the designated home for numerous Sky Original productions – although some original dramas will stay on Sky Atlantic.
The Sky Max launch lineup will include the Never Mind the Buzzcocks revival hosted by Taskmaster's Greg Davies.
Sky Comedy will become the home for the broadcaster's original comedies which previously aired on Sky One, including the likes of Code 404 and Hitmen Reloaded.
"Sky One had a brilliant year, from A Discovery of Witches at the beginning, to Flight Attendant to the Friends reunion so we know that it's in rude health content wise – but I think it is time for a reset," James Morris, Sky's director of programmes for UK & Ireland, told Radio Times.
"Sky One means many things to many people and we didn't want to change what it meant, we kind of felt we wanted to go into this new direction.

"We just want to be really clear to our customers and allow those really big content pieces to be easier than ever to find and we think Sky Showcase, sat side by side with the rest of the key content, will make those shows shine even greater."
Shaking off comparisons to HBO Max in the US, Morris went on to note that Sky Showcase will feature some of the outlet's best shows from across Sky Witness, Sky Documentaries, Sky Crime, Sky Nature, Sky Arts, Sky Max, Sky Comedy, Sky History, Sky Kids, E! and Syfy.
It'll host highlights from movie-based platform Sky Cinema and Sky Sports, too.
Meanwhile, Sky Atlantic will continue as "the exclusive home of high-concept original dramas such as Landscapers, I Hate Suzie, Gangs of London and Chernobyl" plus HBO and Showtime dramas from Euphoria to Billions.

The two new channels will also be available to customers of streaming service NOW, Virgin and BT from launch.
