Small fire extinguished at BP's Cherry Point, Wash, refinery

(Adds details from company, sheriff.)

May 31 (Reuters) - A small fire was quickly extinguished on Tuesday afternoon at BP Plc's 225,000 barrels per day Cherry Point, Washington, refinery, said a BP spokesman.

No injuries were reported from the fire in a process unit, said BP spokesman Michael Abendhoff. He did not have information immediately available about which units were affected.

"The rest of the refinery is running normally," Abendhoff said.

The blaze was put out by refinery personnel and assistance from the local fire department was not required, said John Gargett, deputy director of the sheriff's office.

"It (Other OTC: ITGL - news) was over almost as soon as it started," Gargett said.

The fire was reported at 1:50 p.m. PDT (2050 GMT), he said.

Energy industry intelligence service Genscape had earlier reported elevated flaring at the refinery. (Reporting by Erwin Seba; Editing by Leslie Adler and Sandra Maler)
