Will Smith has opened up about his marriage to Jada Pinkett Smith, in a new interview which reveals their relationship wasn't always monogamous.

The couple came under the spotlight last July after sitting down on Jada's Facebook Watch show, Red Table Talk, to discuss her relationship with singer August Alsina. Jada opened up about getting into an "entanglement" with August, with Will and Jada then attempting to clear the air.

Now, Will has spoken out once again about his relationship with Jada during an in-depth interview with GQ.

Sharing an excerpt from his new memoir Will during the interview, the actor writes, "Our marriage wasn’t working. We could no longer pretend."

"We were both miserable and clearly something had to change," Will's memoir continues, with the interview then revealing that at some point Will and Jada's relationship 'stopped being monogamous'.

Will went on to discuss his marriage to Jada, telling the publication, "Jada never believed in conventional marriage.… Jada had family members that had an unconventional relationship. So she grew up in a way that was very different than how I grew up.

"There were significant endless discussions about, what is relational perfection? What is the perfect way to interact as a couple? And for the large part of our relationship, monogamy was what we chose, not thinking of monogamy as the only relational perfection."

Will continued, sharing his view that marriage "can't be a prison" and adding that he and Jada have given "freedoms" to one another.

He said, "We have given each other trust and freedom, with the belief that everybody has to find their own way. And marriage for us can’t be a prison. And I don’t suggest our road for anybody. I don’t suggest this road for anybody. But the experiences that the freedoms that we’ve given one another and the unconditional support, to me, is the highest definition of love."

Discussing the couple's Red Table Talk episode, the interview reveals that Will too had other relationships outside of his marriage, while the RTT episode only focused on Jada's relationship with August.

In July 2020, the couple sat down on RTT to discuss their relationship, with Will admitting at the time, "We decided that we were going to separate for a period of time and you go figure out how to make yourself happy and I'll figure out how to make myself happy."

Jada then added, "From there, as time went on, I got into a different kind of entanglement with August."

Will pushed on, saying, "An entanglement? A relationship," to which Jada responded, "I was in a lot of pain and I was very broken."

Well, there you have it.
