‘SNL’ Recreated Kamala Harris’s Victory Speech Outfit for Maya Rudolph in Record Time

On Saturday, November 7th, Kamala Harris appeared in Delaware to deliver a victory speech after she and President-elect Joe Biden were projected to win the 2020 presidential election. And a mere three hours after Harris appeared on that Delaware stage, Maya Rudolph appeared on Saturday Night Live's stage wearing the exact same outfit as she played Vice President-elect Harris opposite Jim Carey's Joe Biden in the cold open.

What wizards are currently working behind the scenes at SNL? How did the sketch show match Harris's outfit to a T in the minutes between Harris's speech and SNL's live airing? The only answer we can come up with is that magic is real—and we're not talking about movie magic.

How? When? Where? Seriously, the costume department as SNL deserves an Emmy for this fast-draw wardrobe match alone.

"I am humbled and honored to be the first female, the first Black, the first Indian American, and the first biracial vice president," Rudolph as Harris said during the cold open. She continued, "And if any of that terrifies you, I don't give a funt."

The sketch also gave us a President Trump concession speech of sorts (performed by Alec Baldwin), which was more than what we actually got from the real President Trump. Baldwin's rendition of Macho Man by the Village People was, uh, heartbreaking, to say the least.

How the costume department pulled off this pussy-bow miracle in the hours between 8:30 and 11:30 p.m. will most likely remain a mystery. But, wow, are we glad it happened. Here's to four years worth of Harris-Rudolph wardrobe miracles to come.
