Fans were excited on Saturday night ahead of Israel Adesanya’s bout with Yoel Romero at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, especially after seeing arguably the greatest women’s fight in UFC history right before it at UFC 248.
Yet in the end, many were left disappointed.
Adesanya beat Romero by unanimous decision to retain his middleweight title, though the two were met with plenty of boos in the arena throughout the night.
There were plenty of jokes to be made after the tremendously slow start. Those jokes, though, turned to frustration fast when very little happened through the first several rounds.
This is the worst sporting event I have ever watched— Pat Forde (@ByPatForde) March 8, 2020
Crowd HATES this fight. Many turned on the flashlight on their phones and held them up. They booed loudly at the end. Neither guy getting hands untracked. I gave it to Adesanya, 10-9, but neither was great honestly. I have Izzy 29-28 after three— Kevin Iole (@KevinI) March 8, 2020

That whole Adesanya-Romero fight was the equivalent of a 7-footer making a business decision and choosing not to get dunked on.— Sam Vecenie (@Sam_Vecenie) March 8, 2020
Sometimes fights that are awesome on paper just don't turn out that way inside the Octagon. Tonight was one of those nights. Just a total dud. #UFC248— Michael Stets (@Michael_Stets) March 8, 2020
Fans blown away by Zhang-Jedrzejczyk
Fans had plenty to say about Zhang Weili’s win by split decision over Joanna Jedrzejczyk to retain her strawweight title — especially after seeing how beaten Jedrzejczyk’s forehead became throughout the bout.
Many thought it was one of the better UFC fights ever, too.

It's not just the "greatest fight in women's MMA history." I've watched every big fight in UFC history, men's and women's divisions. You can't name any fight that was definitively better than that. Stop. That's an amazing fight. One of the best ever.— Myron Medcalf (@MedcalfByESPN) March 8, 2020
