Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse star joins Transformers reboot

Dexter and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse star Luna Lauren Vélez has joined the forthcoming Transformers reboot.

The 2022 movie will star Hamilton's Anthony Ramos and Judas and the Black Messiah actress Dominique Fishback and speaking recently, Vélez confirmed she will also appear in the film as Ramos' character's mother.

"I'm doing Transformers 7 which I'm very excited about," Vélez told Comicbookmovie.com.

"I play Anthony Ramos' mom in that film, so there's some exciting stuff coming up."

She added: "I have to confess that I haven't seen any of the films, so to come in a project like this at this moment was really great.

"I'm excited about that. It's going to be fun stuff."

The untitled film, which will mark the seventh in the Transformers universe, will be directed by Grown-ish's Steven Caple Jr and star Ramos as a "flawed and vulnerable hero who has made mistakes in his life and is eager to redeem himself with the help of Optimus Prime" (via Collider).

A release date is currently scheduled for June 24, 2022.

Moving on from Michael Bay's series of films and following the Bumblebee spin-off, the film is written by Darnell Metayer and Josh Peters, based on an earlier script by Joby Harold.

Another Transformers movie is also currently in development. It's set to be directed by Charm City Kings' Angel Manuel Soto and written by The Defenders showrunner Marco Ramirez.

The untitled Transformers reboot is scheduled for release on June 24, 2022.
