Dallas Stars goaltender Ben Bishop and forward Alexander Radulov have been ruled out for the remainder of the 2021 season, general manager Jim Nill confirmed in a statement Wednesday.

Bishop has been recovering from knee surgery that he underwent in October 2020 to repair a torn meniscus and hasn't played during the 2021 season. His original recovery timeline was set at five months. The veteran goalie last played during the 2020 playoffs, appearing in three games, before ceding the net over to Anton Khudobin who carried the Stars to the Stanley Cup Final, bowing out against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Radulov last played for the Stars on March 18, and will require surgery to repair a core muscle injury. Nill wrote that the Stars expect him to be ready to go for the 2021-22 season. The 34-year-old winger posted four goals and 12 points in 11 games during the 2021 campaign.

It's been a tough season for the defending Western Conference champions overall, with a COVID-19 outbreak delaying their start, as 17 members were affected and four games were postponed.

From the outside looking in, injuries and COVID-19 have certainly had an adverse effect on the Stars, who are currently stuck in sixth place in the Central Division, and probably hoping for this genuine nightmare of a season to reach its end.
