Exxon to take 18-24 months to hit full stride with Pioneer purchase
HOUSTON (Reuters) -Exxon Mobil will take 18 to 24 months to achieve its full production synergies from its $60 billion purchase of U.S. shale oil producer Pioneer Natural Resources, the company's top shale executive said on Friday. Exxon this week closed all-stock acquisition after agreeing to an antitrust consent order that barred the former Pioneer CEO from joining its board and is moving in coming weeks to combine operations that will form the largest oil producer in the Permian basin. "You will see (oil production) grow pretty rapidly, year over year," said Bart Cahir, Exxon's senior vice president of shale, as Exxon applies its current growth strategy to the resources incorporated from Pioneer.

Shell smashes forecasts with $7.7 billion quarterly profit
LONDON (Reuters) -Shell reported first-quarter profit of $7.7 billion on Thursday, exceeding expectations as disruption to Red Sea shipping and Russian refining boosted oil trading and liquefied natural gas (LNG) production rose. Shell's cashflow rose by 6% from the previous quarter to $13.3 billion, reflecting strong operational performance, particularly in the LNG division, which together with trading helped offset a decline in natural gas prices that weighed on earnings of rivals including Exxon Mobil and Chevron last week. "Shell delivered another quarter of strong operational and financial performance, demonstrating our continued focus on delivering more value with less emissions," CEO Wael Sawan said.

STORY: Apple announced a record share buyback program on Thursday as the iPhone maker revealed a smaller-than-expected drop in revenue.The company upped its cash dividend by 4%, and is buying back $110 billion worth of stock.It's the largest buyback in Apple's history, fueling a jump in shares after hours.Apple reported a revenue drop of 4% to almost $91 billion in the fiscal second-quarter.That's not as steep a fall as analysts had predicted.A positive forecast came from CEO Tim Cook.He told Reuters the iPhone maker expects "to grow low-single digits" in overall revenue in the current quarter ending in June.Wall Street is predicting closer to 1.3% growth, according to LSEG data.The results and guidance suggest the company may be regaining its footing in the smartphone market, despite stiff competition and regulatory challenges.Long considered a must-own stock on Wall Street, Apple shares have underperformed other Big Tech firms in recent months.It's fallen 10% this year while struggling with weak iPhone demand and tough competition in the Chinese market.Smartphone rivals like Samsung have also introduced competing devices aimed at hosting artificial intelligence chatbots.Though Cook said Thursday that iPhone sales still experienced "growth in some markets, including China."He also said Apple has spent more than $100 billion on AI research and development in the past five years.And that the company would be sharing "some very exciting things" about its AI plans later this year.

(Reuters) -U.S. oil producer ConocoPhillips missed Wall Street bets for first-quarter profit on Thursday, as lower natural gas prices and increased costs offset gains from higher oil production. A milder-than-expected winter hurt demand for the heating fuel in the quarter and pulled down U.S. natural gas prices to a three-and-a-half-year low in February, also affecting earnings of U.S. oil majors Exxon Mobil and Chevron. ConocoPhillips CEO Ryan Lance said energy prices have been volatile, but should not prevent the company from increasing cash distribution to shareholders.

Consolidated Edison beats first-quarter earnings estimates
Electric and gas utility firm Consolidated Edison beat Wall Street estimates for first-quarter profit on Thursday, helped by higher electricity rates and lower operating expenses. On an adjusted basis, the New York-based company said it earned $2.15 per share in the January-March quarter, compared with analysts' estimate of $1.88 per share, according to LSEG data. Consolidated Edison provides electric and gas services to about 5.1 million customers through its subsidiaries, mainly in some boroughs of New York City - Manhattan, the Bronx, parts of Queens - and parts of adjoining Westchester County.

Pioneer reports lower profit ahead of its takeover by Exxon
Earlier in the day, the U.S. Federal Trade Commission gave the go-ahead to Exxon Mobil's $60 billion purchase of the company, but barred Pioneer's former CEO, Scott Sheffield, from joining Exxon's board on allegations he attempted to collude with OPEC to raise oil prices. Sheffield retired as Pioneer's CEO on Dec. 31, but continues to serve on its board and was due to take a seat on Exxon's board when the acquisition closed.
