Steve Martin, Selena Gomez and Martin Short Investigate Crime in ‘Only Murders in the Building’ Teaser

Hulu’s upcoming comedy series “Only Murders in the Building” has dropped its first teaser, following three strangers obsessed with true crime, portrayed by Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez. However, their obsession becomes a little too real when the three murder mystery fanatics unexpectedly find themselves involved in a murder case.

In the teaser, Charles (Martin), Mabel (Gomez) and Oliver (Short) question how well they know their neighbors after a mysterious death shakes their apartment complex.

“Only Murders in the Building” hails from co-creators and writers Martin and John Hoffman. Martin and Hoffman will executive produce along with Short, Gomez, Dan Fogelman and Jess Rosenthal. 20th Century Fox Television produces.

The series will mark Gomez’s first regular scripted television role since the beloved Disney Channel series “Wizards of Waverly Place.” In addition to her music career, Gomez has starred in films such as “Spring Breakers,” “Monte Carlo,” the animated “Hotel Transylvania” franchise and “The Fundamentals of Caring.” She was also an executive producer on the Netflix drama series “13 Reasons Why” and stars in and executive produces the HBO Max cooking show “Selena + Chef.”

“I also think [the series is] going to bring a lot of joy to people,” Gomez told Variety in September. “I was on a Zoom with Steve and Marty, and I’m like, ‘I’m not going to get any work done because they are just so quick in their back-and-forth.’”

Hulu has previously found success in the true crime genre: The streaming service’s “The Act,” based on the real-life murder of Dee Dee Blanchard, won Patricia Arquette an Emmy for supporting limited series/TV movie actress and picked up a nomination for lead limited series/TV movie actress Joey King in 2019.
