Boy, 15, in critical condition after being hit by police car responding to 999 call

A 15-year-old boy is fighting for his life after being hit by a police car that was responding to an emergency call.

The Greater Manchester Police vehicle struck the teenager while on its way to a “domestic disturbance” 999 callout at around 9.30pm on Boxing Day.

Officers stopped at the scene and gave the boy first aid until an ambulance arrived and took him to a nearby hospital.

He was said to have sustained a “serious head injury” from the crash and remains in a critical condition.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police confirmed the incident involved one of the force’s cars and said they would be launching an investigation.

They said: “At around 9.30pm on Saturday 26 December 2020, officers were responding to a domestic disturbance incident when they were involved in a collision with a pedestrian on Garners Lane in Stockport.

“Police stopped and administered trauma care to a 15-year-old boy until the ambulance arrived.

“The boy has since been taken to hospital with a serious head injury where he remains in a critical condition.

“An investigation is underway. This incident has been referred to GMP’s Professional Standards Branch, and the Independent Office for Police Conduct in line with normal procedure.
