STOCKS NEWS EUROPE-Gerry Weber dips to near 5-wk low on results

German retailer Gerry Weber falls as much as 4.2 percent to its lowest level in nearly five weeks and slips to the bottom of the midcap index MDax after presenting forecast-lagging results, traders say.

"Earnings and sales were not convincing and in such a weak market environment people are quick with selling," one trader says. The MDax trades 1.2 percent lower as investors worry about the tension in the Ukraine ahead of a weekend referendum in Crimea.

Commerzbank (Xetra: CBK100 - news) analyst Yasmin Moschitz highlights that, despite retail sales now making up more of its total revenue, the EBIT margin remained flat and net income came in below consensus expectations.

"Overall not an impressive first quarter," Equinet analysts write in a note, nevertheless adding that the recent warm weather should help the company to deliver sound second-quarter results.
