STOCKS NEWS EUROPE-UK small caps fall but outperform blue-chips

Britain's small cap equity indexes edge lower on Monday yet outperform bigger falls on the blue-chip index.

The FTSE Small Caps Index is down by 0.1 percent while the FTSE AIM (FTSE: ^FTAI - news) All Share Index falls 0.2 percent. The blue-chip FTSE 100 (FTSE: ^FTSE - news) index is down by 0.8 percent while the FTSE 250 (FTSE: ^FTMC - news) mid-cap index declines by 0.7 percent.

Waterman Group (LSE: WTM.L - news) surges 12.3 percent after the engineering and environmental consultancy group posts higher dividends and adjusted earnings per share.

"Waterman's prelims highlight improving market conditions and increasing confidence that the group will deliver strong growth over the next three years," brokerage N+1 Singer writes in a research note.

Fund management company City of London Investment Group falls 2.9 percent after an slump on emerging markets' equity indexes leads to a decline in the company's assets under management.
