STOCKS NEWS EUROPE-UK small caps inch higher, Talvivaara jumps

The FTSE Small Cap index advances 0.1 percent, lagging the mid-caps and the blue chips, which both advance 0.4 percent, but outperforming junior-listed AIM shares, which shed 0.2 percent.

Talvivaara jumps 46 percent in brisk trade after Nyrstar (Other OTC: NYRSY - news) , the world's largest zinc smelting company, agrees a loan deal with the struggling Finnish miner in return for zinc ore.

Trading volume in Talvivaara stands at 3-1/2 times its 90-day daily average, against the FTSE Small Cap index on half.
