STOCKS NEWS EUROPE-UK small caps up 0.2 pct at mid-session

The FTSE small cap index adds 0.3 percent into mid-session and junior-listed AIM shares rise 0.1 percent, both outperforming the broadly flat blue chips.

Eland Oil rises 4.9 percent after the oil and gas development and exploration company says it has entered the pre-commissioning and testing phase on the OML 40 licence in Nigeria.

Noricum Gold (LSE: NMG.L - news) drops 5.2 percent after the Austrian-focused gold exploration and development company releases a drilling update.

"The maiden JORC resource estimate is now 'expected to be finalised in H1 2014', which we interpret as this slipping from first quarter to second quarter," analysts at Shore Capital (Other OTC: SHOCF - news) write. "...unless the company can surprise positively by pulling an elephant out of the exploration bag, we would be inclined to see any strength as disposal opportunities."
