The FTSE Small Cap Index is flat, while the FTSE AIM All Share small caps equity index rises 0.2 percent, performing broadly in line with a 0.1 percent rise on the FTSE 250 mid-cap index but outperforming a flat blue-chip FTSE 100 index.

Medical products group Tissue Regenix (LSE: TRX.L - news) surges 15.1 percent to 25 pence, lifted by an upbeat broker note from Panmure Gordon, which keeps a "buy" rating on Tissue Regenix but raises its price target on the stock to 22 pence from 18 pence.

Power generation company Rurelec (LSE: RUR.L - news) rises 1.8 percent after the company strikes some new deals in Peru.

Retail and women's clothing company Laura Ashley (LSE: ALY.L - news) falls 2.8 percent after it posts lower sales.

In light of the lower sales, brokerage Cantor Fitzgerald cuts its full-year earnings-per-share (EPS) forecasts on Laura Ashley to 1.85 pence from 2.03 pence.
