Strictly’s Dan Walker reveals Louise Minchin inspired him to do the show
Strictly Come Dancing's Dan Walker has credited his BBC Breakfast former co-host Louise Minchin for inspiring him to take part in the BBC One competition.
The 44-year-old broadcaster recently bid an emotional farewell to Louise as she hosted her final programme this week, having been a part of the morning news show for 20 years.
"I've learned from Louise, my sort of breakfast partner, that it's good to do stuff that sort of makes you feel a bit uncomfortable or scares you, every now and again," Dan said (via Radio Times).
"I think I've always been somebody who doesn’t want to be comfortable all the time and I think it’s good to be tested and put under some pressure and feel that natural adrenaline."
Dan also revealed that he has plenty of support from his Breakfast presenter colleagues, many of whom have also competed in the show over the years.
"I know that Naga (Munchetty), Carol (Kirkwood), and Ore (Oduba) and a lot of people who’ve been on the show really enjoyed it, and they’ve all been lovely with their advice, and they are fully supportive and hopefully I won’t let the breakfast team down!" he added.
Strictly will launch this weekend, during which the celebrity contestants will finally be paired-up with their pro-dancer partners.
Meanwhile, judge Craig Revel-Horwood recently suggested that Dan might "struggle" due to his height, particularly in the Latin dances. Dan is 6ft 6inches.
"If you're asking who I'm worried about, yeah, Dan [Walker] a little bit in the Latin because he's so long he's got so much to control of that body," Craig explained on Lorraine earlier this week.
Craig only had praise for Loose Women's Judi Love, adding: "Judi Love's sort of standing out, not because she's front row, centre [in Strictly's official celebrity line-up picture] but because she's fantastic. Her personality is brilliant. I saw her on the prerecord for this coming Saturday, she looks amazing. I can't wait."
Viewers will be able to judge for themselves when Dan makes his debut on the dance-floor on Saturday night.
Strictly Come Dancing launches on BBC One on Saturday, September 18th.
