Strictly Come Dancing star Hamza Yassin has opened up about his dating life revealing that he is single and "ready to mingle".

Speaking to The Times, Hamza, who won the Strictly Glitterball Trophy along with professional dancing partner Jowita Przystał last year, got candid about his private life.

Since winning the show and becoming a household name, Hamza said that being recognised has negatively affected his confidence with women.

"It’s probably made me less confident with girls, if anything, because people know who I am," Hamza admitted.

According to Hamza, his day job as a wildlife programming presenter doesn't make the dating game any easier either due to his work commitments abroad.

"My life has been so busy. I can be away for months of the year in a remote place you can only get through to on a satellite phone, and then I come home and then a week and a half later I’m back off to somewhere in Asia and then there for three months and come back again," Hamza explained.

"It’s not sustainable. How do you have a relationship through a satellite phone? 'Are… you… alive?'"

Although his current busy schedule is getting in the way, Hamza said he would like to have a partner and a family one day – if they can put up with him that is.

"I’m not worried, and good luck to whoever she is," he quipped. "I’m such an old man now – I’m so set in my ways."

Meanwhile, the wildlife cameraman was recently announced as an ambassador for Dyslexia Scotland, saying in a statement: "I’m so pleased to become an Ambassador for Dyslexia Scotland, a charity that works hard to raise understanding of dyslexia. By lending my support in this way I can tell my own dyslexia story, something I’m passionate about sharing."

Strictly Come Dancing airs on BBC One, while spin-off Strictly: It Takes Two airs on BBC Two. Both shows are available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
