Strictly Come Dancing's Anton Du Beke is preparing to move to the judging panel after 17 years on the show as a professional dancer, and he's revealed what he'll "miss most" as he hangs up his dancing shoes.

Having previously stood in for judge Motsi Mabuse last year, Anton will be taking over from Strictly stalwart Bruno Tonioli, who will remain on US version Dancing with the Stars, unable to travel back and forth due to the pandemic.

Lamenting that he'll no longer be able to take part in the big, impressive group dances, Anton told viewers on Good Morning Britain: "Traditionally the judges don’t get involved in the group numbers unless it's sort of like a Halloween theme or something like that.

“I would be hugely disappointed if I wasn’t able to do something. Maybe if somebody comes in and does a turn or song or something, I could grab one of the girls and we can have a bit of a dance."

He added: "I'd love that, this is the thing I’m going to miss the most, and I know all the pros are getting into the studio now… and I’m already feeling a little bit… bereft of that."

Strictly will feature 15 celebrity contestants and pro dancers this year as it returns to its full-length, kicking off in September, rather than October this year. While the much-loved themed weeks are back, sadly Blackpool week is off the cards due to Covid.

"We're so thrilled that Strictly will be returning for a full-length series this year, and know how much viewers are looking forward to getting their full Strictly fix and seeing the return of much-loved specials," the show's executive producer Sarah James told The Mirror.

Celebrity contestants have yet to be officially confirmed by the BBC, but rumoured names so far include Gordon Ramsay's daughter Matilda, Olympic gold medalist Tom Daley and former footballer and commentator Rio Ferdinand.

Strictly Come Dancing will return to BBC One in September.
