Superights Adds ‘Croco Doc,’ ‘Hidden Waste’ & ’Giuseppe’ to Annecy Sales Slate

Superights, the upscale distribution arm of France’s Superprod Group, a co-producer on Tomm Moore’s Academy Award-nominated “Song of the Sea,” has licensed international rights to three new series, securing properties produced out of France, Spain, Belgium and Switzerland.

The acquisition marks the latest move from Superprod, founded in 2010 by Jérémie Fajner and Clément Calvet, which has made its name producing both animated series (“Pat the Dog,” Netflix’s “Go, Go Cory Carson”) and features and runs its own animation studio.

In February 2021, in a new expansive thrust, Superprod acquired a majority stake in startup Italian animation studio Red Monk – an initiative which allows it to meet the increased demand for animation by expanding its own development and production resources, as well as strengthening its foothold in the Italian market.

Of the new Superights acquisition trio, “Croco Doc” is billed by Superights as being the first children’s series dedicated to exploring health issues in an amusing and educational way. First introduced via a trailer at MipJunior last year, it rated in the top 30 programs most-viewed by buyers.

Drawn in 2D with strong clean lines and warm block colors, “Croco Doc” is set in a Zoolandia, a village inhabited entirely by animals, where Croco Doc, a beaming, white coated reptile explains clearly at his surgery the treatments of common kids ailments, such as chickenpox. Valencia’s Buenpaso, Barcelona’s Nuts Ideas and Spanish public broadcaster RTVE produce. RTVE distributes in Spanish-speaking territories, Superights in the rest of the world.

Produced by Paris’ Caussette Prod. and La Station Animation, the short format “Hidden Waste” explains in a humorous and helpful way how to reduce our daily environmental footprint. As with “Croco Doc,” the production is completely finished; all episodes are ready to be broadcast.

Described as a charming 2D animation pre-school special – a description born out by a still – “Giuseppe” turns on the adventures of a little hedgehog whose only dream is to see the snow, its synopsis runs. But when the cold arrives, the synopsis continues, so does the winter ghost! “Legend says that the ghost comes down from the mountains to catch little hedgehogs who don’t want to hibernate….”

A touching story, currently in production and scheduled for delivery in fall 2021, “Giuseppe” is produced by Geneva’s Nadasdy Film, Roubaix’s Les Films du Nord and Brussels LaBoîte Productions.

“These new acquisitions are the result of multiple meetings with passionate producers,” said Nathalie Pinguet, deputy general manager of Superights. She added: “Every day, we strive to find the best programs from the four corners of the globe to satisfy our customers’ diverse expectations.”
