Harry Brant, whose father is billionaire Peter Brant, was a prominent socialite on New York's fashion scene.
Mr Brant had followed in his mother's footsteps, appearing as a model in campaigns for Italian Vogue and Balmain.
He also released a make-up line with his brother for MAC.
In a statement published in the New York Times, his family said that they will be "forever saddened" that his life was cut short.
Harry, who had struggled with addiction, died following an accidental overdose of prescription drugs, the publication quoted the family as saying.
“We will forever be saddened that his life was cut short by this devastating disease”, the statement said.
"He achieved a lot in his 24 years, but we will never get the chance to see how much more Harry could have done.
"Harry was not just our son. He was also a wonderful brother, loving grandson, favourite uncle and a caring friend."
Mr Brant was arrested in 2016 for drug possession. He had planned to check into a drug rehabilitation centre earlier this year, his family said.
