India faced England in a warm-up game on Monday for the T20 World Cup 2021. In a high scoring contest,off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin turned out to be the most economical among Indian bowlers. In his four overs, the 35-year old gave away just 23 runs.
Meanwhile, the chirpy Rishabh Pant had something to say to the veteran spinner from behind the stumps. Lately, the Tamil-Nadu spinner has been using a lot of bowling variations in T20 cricket. One of them is the “leg-spin” variation where he uses his wrists to turn the ball away from the right-handers.
So, keeping a note of this, Rishabh Pant during the 11th over of the England innings cheekily suggested Ashwin to bowl the leg-spinning delivery to Jonny Bairstow. He said in Hindi that this is the best moment for Ashwin to try his variation and fulfil his desire of bowling leg-spin.
“Arey Leg-spin daal do Ash bhai.Yahi Mauka hai, Yahi Dastoor Hai,Leg-spin daalne ka.Armaan pura karne ka yahi mauka hai,Leg spin ka.”,Pant was caught saying on the stump mic.

MS Dhoni never allowed Ravichandran Ashwin to experiment: Virender Sehwag
Although Ravichandran Ashwin has displayed great skill by coming up with a lot of variations during the IPL, he has also faced some criticism from former cricketers. They are of the opinion that Ashwin has overused the variations and he should focus more on his primary weapon i.e., off-spin.
Former India opener Virender Sehwag during the second leg of IPL 2021, said that Ravichandran Ashwin tries so many variations because he is afraid that he will be hit for boundaries,if he sticks to off-spin in T20 format.“Because of this fear, he resorts to experimentation. When MS Dhoni used to be behind the wickets, he never allowed Ashwin to experiment,” Sehwag had told Cricbuzz.
Sehwag’s former opening partner Gautam Gambhir was also not very impressed with Ashwin’s approach during the UAE leg of IPL 2021 and suggested the Delhi Capitals spinner to bowl as he bowls in a Test match.
“The entire world knows that you have variations of all types, you can bowl the googly, leg-spin, knuckleball but you are still an off-spinner,” Gautam had advised Ashwin.
