Taco Bell just announced the return of a cult-favorite menu item — and fast food lovers are freaking out

The Taco Bell potato burrito is back, and fast food fans can hardly contain themselves.

Formally known as the “Beefy Potato-rito,” the item joins a slew of other recent changes to the chain’s menu. In March, Taco Bell announced a new version of its iconic “Quesalupa,” plus the return of its potatoes — a beloved item that had literally sparked protests when it disappeared from the menu in 2020.

Now, potato lovers have even more to celebrate. The potato burrito, hitting menus on April 15, will only cost $1. What’s more: Taco Bell Rewards Members can get the cheesy, beefy item a few days early.

For the unfamiliar, the Taco Bell potato burrito features sour cream, nacho cheese, potatoes and a double portion of beef — hence the “beefy” moniker.

The announcement sparked chaos on social media online. Fans largely rejoiced the Potato-rito’s return.

“Is THIS REAL??? I could not be happier right now,” one Twitter user wrote.

“Omg I need one,” another wrote.

However, Taco Bell fans always have strong feelings about the chain’s menu (keep in mind, these are the same people who created a petition to bring back Mexican pizza), so there was plenty of criticism too. Some Twitter users took the opportunity to demand other cult-favorite items, including Nacho Fries and Volcano Tacos.

Taco Bell’s announcement comes after similar moves from other fast food chains. For example, McDonald’s recently brought back its beloved Hi-C Orange Lavaburst drink, while Burger King has re-launched its French Toast Sandwich.
