Take private
A transaction in which a majority shareholder or the company’s senior management team buys the outstanding company shares and delists it from the stock exchange. Companies may go private after a takeover or if their management plans on carrying out a restructuring which would adversely affect their share price if the business were to remain listed. Companies which are taken private are often loaded with significant amounts of debt to fund the transaction.
