A teacher has said that although her job is hard work, her pupils make it all worth it, in a new campaign video aiming to boost teacher recruitment.

Chelsea Hodgson, 28, a primary school teacher at St Hubert’s RC Primary School in Great Harwood, said her pupils have taught her some important life lessons.

She said: “My role as a teacher is unique, in that I get to inspire the next generation while I’m also learning through all the interactions with my students.

“Teaching can be hard work, but it’s fulfilling knowing I’m playing an important part in young people’s lives, and in a role with opportunities for me to grow and develop as a person too.

“My students have taught me is that every day is a learning day, and you should live it to the fullest. Be fearless. Be curious. Be excited. Be an explorer. Love unconditionally.

"But most of all grow a little each day and make every experience count, as you can always learn from everything you do and from everyone you meet.

“For me, one of the most memorable life lessons I think my students have taught me is to always be myself and not be afraid to express myself.

"They’ve taught me to open up about experiences and how I feel as this can help other people too.”

Chelsea has spoken out as part of a campaign which has shown that nine in 10 teachers have said ‘they have learnt more about themselves from working with students than they ever thought they would’.

Chelsea also stars in a new online video called ‘Student Lessons Shape Lives’ which reveals the life lessons teachers have learnt from working with young people.

The video, which is part of the Get Into Teaching campaign, includes other teachers from across the country who speak about how they are inspired by their class.

The study has also shown that more than four fifths (81 per cent) of teachers in the North West say that some of the most profound moments in their career have been when a student has taught them something about themselves.
