Teen shares family's emotional reaction to hearing him sing in Super Bowl commercial: 'I had chills the whole time'

A teenage singer has gone viral after sharing his family’s heartwarming reaction to his singing in an Super Bowl commercial.

On Feb. 8, Christian Shelton, a 19-year-old singer based in Las Vegas, posted a TikTok in which he and his family — which includes his mother, father, uncle, aunt, cousin and grandparents — sit together as they watch a one-minute advertisement for job placement website Indeed. In the background, Shelton’s voice can be heard as he sings “Rise Up” by Andra Day.

“You’ve broken down and tired,” Shelton sings at the beginning. “Of living life on a merry go round and you can’t find the fighter, but I see it in you so we gonna walk it out.”

Throughout the clip, Shelton’s family can be seen watching and listening to the Super Bowl commercial, which shows people trying to get back into the workforce, in awe — some of the family members even smile and wave their hands in a show of support. By the time the ad ends, Shelton’s family claps their hands, clearly proud of the teenager for what he’s accomplished.

The TikTok has since received more than 1 million comments and over 24,000 supportive comments — one of which came from Meghan Trainor herself.

“I literally heard it and said waittttt that’s Christian!!!!!” she wrote.

“No way this is you!!! I was listening to this commercial and telling me family ‘he sings so good’ and we all started getting goosebumps,” another person added.

“I knew it was you because I had chills the whole time!!!” a third commented. “Fabulous!!!”

In an interview with KLAS-TV, Shelton said he didn’t get into singing until he attended the Las Vegas Academy of the Arts as a member of the choir.

The teenager, who has nearly 735,000 followers on TikTok and has caught the attention of Lizzo and Sam Smith, said he received the opportunity to sing in the Indeed commercial after an ad agency representing the website reached out to him via Instagram.

“It means so much to me that people enjoy my voice enough to think that I would even be good enough to do a local commercial, let alone the Super Bowl that’s broadcast to tens of millions of people,” he said.
