Tess Daly has opened up about turning 50, refusing to 'fixate on age as a limitation' and sustaining a marriage of almost 20 years.

In a new interview with Women's Health UK, the Strictly presenter – who's 51 – joked that it was 'still a shock' when she says her age out loud because she doesn't 'feel any different to when I was in my thirties'.

Daly also shared her secret for feeling confident in your skin as you get older: 'Confidence comes from cutting yourself some slack. I’m in my fifties now... But I don’t fixate on age as a limitation, because it’s never held me back.'

She added: 'Confidence, to me, is just pushing yourself a little bit further than you think you can go, and you’ll always surprise yourself.'

For the TV presenter and former model that means regularly running 5k as she watches Netflix and doing daily yoga.

'I've got a treadmill, where I've realised I can watch Netflix and run 5k at the same time,' she said, explaining that before, she would 'never sit down and watch TV in the day' but on the treadmill, she can justify it.

She added that scheduling in a yoga session in the morning and last thing at night, is essential to stop her mind from 'whirring'.

Daly told Women's Health: 'In the morning, it focuses your thoughts for the day, rather than being bombarded by ‘what-ifs’ and news feeds. Then, if I don’t do yoga at night, I go to bed with a whirring mind. So, I’m trying to transcend all that uncertainty, because it leads to anxiety.'

She also chatted candidly about her high-profile marriage to fellow TV presenter Vernon Kay. The pair met in 2001, married in 2003 and have two daughters together: Phoebe, 16 and Amber, 11. She described their relationship as 'a ride', especially when Kay appeared on I'm a Celebrity last year.

'The printer, the dishwasher, the dryer [all broke] – basically everything you need when solo parenting. I was like, "Okay, Vern, I really do need you around the house"… We’re soulmates, me and Vernon. It’s been a ride. And I love him more than ever.'
